Our client is a specialist civil contractor delivering technically complex water, wastewater, and utilities projects across New Zealand.
Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of Three Waters projects across Auckland, they are looking for an experienced Drainlayer/Foreman to join their team.
The Role
This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing drainage crews delivering civil infrastructure projects across wastewater, stormwater, and water networks.
You will lead site teams undertaking complex drainage works including deep gravity pipelines, rising mains, pump station construction, and associated civil works while ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high quality standard.
Responsibilities
• Leading drainage crews on site and coordinating daily construction activities.
• Installing wastewater, stormwater, and water pipelines including large-diameter pipework.
• Supervising deep excavations, trench support systems, and temporary works.
• Overseeing installation of manholes, chambers, and pump station infrastructure.
• Managing plant, materials, and subcontractors to ensure programme targets are met.
• Ensuring works are delivered in accordance with drawings, specifications, and council standards.
• Maintaining high standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance.
• Completing QA documentation including inspections, as-builts, and site records.
• Liaising with engineers, project managers, and clients to coordinate works and resolve site issues.
• Mentoring junior crew members and supporting the development of site teams.
Skills And Experience
• Certified or experienced Drainlayer with strong knowledge of civil drainage construction.
• Proven experience leading crews on civil infrastructure or Three Waters projects.
• Experience with deep drainage, large pipelines, and complex utility environments.
• Strong understanding of trench safety, shoring systems, and dewatering practices.
• Experience installing manholes, pump stations, and associated structures is highly desirable.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
• Strong knowledge of New Zealand construction and safety standards.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills.
• A proactive attitude with the ability to manage crews and maintain productivity on site.
• Full NZ driver’s licence (WTR endorsements advantageous).
